Seminoles to Face Cal Poly in First Round

The Florida State Seminoles will play the Cal Poly Mustangs from San Luis Obispo, California in the first round of the 2009 MCLA National Championship next Tuesday.  The game will take place at 7 p.m. Mountain Time (9 p.m. Eastern) at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park in Denver, Colorado.  "We’re really excited for the opportunity to be in the National Championship," said Seminole assistant Dorsey Hairston, "This is a goal we set at the beginning of the season, so we’re looking forward to being in the tournament and trying to win a championship.  We know Cal Poly will be a good opponent, and we’re excited to be playing them."  The Seminoles earned an automatic bid to the National Championship as the Southeastern Lacrosse Conference Champions.  The Seminoles are 16-2 on the season, and will be the 10th seed at this year’s National Championship.  Cal Poly also earned an automatic bid to Denver as the Champions of the Western Collegiate Lacrosse League.  The Mustangs are 12-3 in 2009 and were named the 7th seed for the Championship.  This will be only the second meeting between the schools.  Oddly enough, the first meeting also took place in the first round of the National Championship, with Cal Poly earning a 13-8 victory in 2006. "It’s kind of funny– we played Virginia Tech in SELC Finals in 2006, and then played Cal Poly in the first round of the National Championship.  This year, we played Virginia Tech in the SELC Finals, and now we’re playing Cal Poly again in the first round," said senior defenseman Myles Somerville.  "We know they’re a good team.  All we can do is go out and play the way we played in the SELCs this year."  "For the guys who played against them before, it gives us a chance at redemption," said senior Brian Lombard, who won 8 face-offs against Cal Poly in 2006.  "They’re a really good team.  You don’t win the WCLL without being a really good team.  But we’ve been working hard, and if we play our game, then we’ve got as good a chance as anyone."  CollegeLAX.us will provide news and updates for the 2009 MCLA National Championship.  Live scores and game updates will be available for each game here: http://www.collegelax.us/2009/championships/
