Seminoles 16, SCAD 4

The Florida State Men’s Lacrosse team opened their 2007 season on the road with a 16-4 victory over the Savannah College of Art & Design (SCAD) Bees.  The Seminoles led 8-0 at halftime en route to their first win of the 2007 season.     Thirty-six Seminoles saw action against the Bees, and twelve Tribe members tallied points.  Attackmen Patrick Haley (3 goals, 1 assist) and Grover Light (2g, 2a) led the Noles with 4 points each.  Haley (a transfer from Towson University) scored the first goals of his career at Florida State on Saturday.  Two other new additions scored in their Seminole debuts, as freshman Kyle Partridge (2g) and Dave Siegel (1g, 1a) also helped the Seminole cause.  The newcomers are one of the big reasons why the Seminoles are excited about their 2007 season.  "It was a good start to the season once we knocked the rust off," said long stick midfielder Chris Cecil, "and it was good to see what our new players have to offer."     The Seminoles will also be counting on a new face in goal after graduating their All American goalie Jeff Goren.  On Saturday, sophomore Stephen Heiman proved to be up to the task.  Heiman surrendered only 1 goal while making 13 saves in his first start for the Seminoles.     FSU Assistant Coach Rory Whipple was pleased with the Tribe’s first game of the season.  "It was a good game for us," said Whipple, "because it’s always important to start out with a win."  Whipple was also full of praise for the Bees, who were runners up in last year’s SELC B Division.  "I was really impressed with SCAD’s ability today," said Whipple, "if they keep their competition up, then they’re really going to have something up there."
