FSU 16, Santa Clara 5

The Florida State Seminoles picked up their 11th win of the season and 3rd win in five days with a 16-5 victory over Santa Clara on Wednesday night.  Junior attackman Corey Noonan led the Seminoles with 6 goals despite not playing in the game’s final 20 minutes.  With one minute left in the first quarter, the Seminoles led 3-1.  Noonan (6 goals) scored his second goal of the game with 47 seconds remaining in the quarter, and Senior Nick Geppert (1 goal) added another 24 seconds later to give the Seminoles a 5-1 lead after the opening quarter. Santa Clara was able to slow the Seminole offense in the second quarter, as they allowed just two goals.  With 8:15 until the half, Noonan scored his third goal of the game.  Six minutes later, freshman Jon Yates (1 g, 1 assist) finished a feed from sophomore Matt Jankowski (4 assists) to put the Seminoles up 7-1.  Santa Clara’s Mark Swoboda scored the second of his three goals with 2:26 remaining in the half to bring the halftime score to 7-2.
