FSU 15, Clemson 3

The Florida State Men’s Lacrosse team defeated the Clemson Tigers 15-3 to move to 4-0 on the season.  Led by a strong defense and solid goalkeeping, the visiting Seminoles were able to contain the Tiger offense, as junior goalie Stephen Heiman made 13 saves while allowing just 2 goals.  Two goals from Nick Geppert (4 goals) sparked the Seminoles to an early 2-0 lead.  A transition goal by Tiger Charles Plaxico brought the game to 2-1 at the end of the first quarter. The Seminoles really got things going in the second quarter when they outscored Clemson 5-0.  Geppert scored his third goal early in the quarter, and goals from Stewart Lundeen (1g, 2 assists), Jon Yates (2g), Corey Noonan (1g, 2a) and Nick Calabro (1g) gave the Seminoles a 7-1 lead at halftime.  Defensively, the Seminoles limited the Tigers to just one goal on 18 shots during the first half.  Tyler Richey (2g) scored both of his goals midway through the third quarter, and the Seminoles expanded their lead to 10 goals heading into the final quarter.  Freshmen Colin Morrison (1g) and Parker Soule (1g) added goals in the fourth quarter, as the Seminoles were able to close out a strong 15-3 victory on the road. Despite the 15 goals scored, the story of the day was the Seminole defense.  The Noles allowed just 3 goals on the day, and the Tribe’s man-down unit held the Tigers scoreless on all seven of their extra-man opportunities.  Heiman, who tallied 13 saves while allowing just 2 goals, was pleased with the performance of the defense in front of him.  "Our defense stood strong even when man-down.  It was a great overall team performance." Said senior midfielder Nick Geppert (4g), "I’m glad our defense came together and worked as a unit.  We couldn’t have done it without Myles (Somerville) leading us, and (Stephen) Heiman seeing the ball so well today."  "I don’t think any of us were pleased with the way we performed on the defensive end yesterday (against South Carolina)," said Seminole Assistant Coach Matt Waesche, "so I’m really proud of the way our guys came out today.  We played a ton of guys, and I’m really happy with every single one of them.  Now we have to make sure that we perform like this in every game."  The Seminoles will look to capture their seventh consecutive Southern Shootout title, as they host the event featuring Utah, Georgia and Missouri this coming weekend.  For details, please visit FSULacrosse.com GAME STATISTICS Score by Period      1    2    3    4    TOTAL ————————————————- FSU…………………. 2    5    4    4     –  15 Clem……………….. 1    0    1    1     –   3 FSU SCORING: GOALS: Geppert 4, Yates 2, Richey 2, Noonan 1, Jankowski 1, Lundeen 1, Calabro 1, Siegel 1, Morrison 1, Soule 1.
