FSU is Looking For a New Head Lacrosse Coach

The Florida State University Lacrosse Club is seeking a mature and experienced coach who is able to balance the challenges of coaching a player-run MCLA program while maintaining a positive culture and winning tradition.

The new coach must live in Tallahassee, Florida or be willing to relocate.

About FSU Lacrosse

  • FSU Competes in the South Eastern Lacrosse Conference (SELC). A division within the MCLA consisting of colleges in the Southeastern portion of the United States. Other members include Florida, Georgia Tech and Clemson.
  • FSU has been a member of the SELC since 2002. Before that, it competed in the Florida Lacrosse League since the 1970’s.
  • FSU has won the SELC Championship 3 times and been invited to the MCLA National Championship 4 times. The best finish was in 2005 when FSU finished in the final 4.
  • The main season runs during the Spring semester.

About the Position

The new head coach will……

  • Lead the team as they compete in the competitive MCLA.
  • Run the Fall and Spring seasons.
    • Fall season takes place for approximately 6-8 weeks with 2 practices a week and 4-6 friendly matches.
    • Spring season lasts from January to May and is the main MCLA season. Practice is 5 days a week with games and travel on the weekends.
  • Handle new player recruiting year round.
  • Be responsible for hiring assistants.
  • Work with university officials when necessary.
  • Be responsible for scheduling.
  • Help with fundraising.
  • Communicate effectively with players, parents, school officials and alumni.

What are we looking for?

The ideal candidate….

  • Has playing and coaching experience at the MCLA level or higher.
  • Is in it for the long term.
  • Is well spoken, assertive and charismatic.
  • Treats the players with respect and professionalism.
  • Has strong lines of communication with players, parents, alumni and school officials.
  • Is willing to relocate and/or live in Tallahassee, Florida full time. The ideal candidate would establish roots in the community and be a anchor for the current team and the strong alumni base.
  • Is mature and not interested in living a college lifestyle.
  • Understands that this is not a full time job and will need an alternate source of work/income that will allow him the time and resources to effectively coach the team.
  • Understands that FSU Lacrosse is a club program at Florida State University. This is NOT a University position.
