Yates Named Academic All American

Seminole midfielder Jon Yates has been named to the 2009 Men’s Collegiate Lacrosse Association (MCLA) Academic All America Team. The honor was earned by just seventeen players in the MCLA’s Division I, and Yates was the only representative of the Southeastern Lacrosse Conference (SELC) to make the list. Yates was named to the All America Third Team in May, and he becomes the first player in Florida State lacrosse history to earn both All America and Academic All America honors. "Jon is the epitome of the student-athlete, and we could not be prouder of his accomplishment," said Seminole head coach Bill Harkins, "As a coach, you’re for the most part a teacher, and as a teacher, nothing gives you greater joy than your students succeeding." Yates, a sophomore midfielder during the 2009 season, was named to the All America Third Team, All SELC First Team, as well as the SELC All Tournament Team. He was the Seminoles’ third-leading scorer in 2009, and trailed only attackmen Corey Noonan and Tyler Richey in points. Following the 2009 season, Yates was named a team captain for the 2009-2010 season.
