The SouthEastern Lacrosse Conference coaches tabbed Florida State as the favorites to repeat as Conference Champions in 2012. The Seminoles, who won their third SELC Championship in 2011, received 9 of 16 first-place votes in the annual pre-season rankings.
"I think it's perfunctory that as last year's champ you get the pre-season poll top spot," said Seminole Head Coach Bill Harkins, "Really, it's a beauty contest, but in reality I'm not sure how pretty we really will be this season."
The Seminoles were followed in the pre-season rankings by Clemson (4 first-place votes), Virginia Tech, South Carolina (1 first-place vote), Central Florida (1 first-place vote) and Florida (1 first-place vote).
When asked about the poll, Seminole midfielder Brett Angerer said, "It’s an honor that we can continue to be number one after we accomplished our goal of winning last year’s SELC Championship. We are working to continue that streak with another Conference Championship this year, and hopefully a National Championship."
