Division II foes have not been lucky for Florida State. After defeating Division II’s Mars Hill 22-9, the Noles have dropped their remaining matches versus Division II teams. On Saturday, March 11, Florida State suffered its first loss of the season at the hands on No. 3 C.W. Post. Florida State suffered its second consecutive loss on Tuesday, March 14 at the hands of No. 8 Bryant University Bulldogs, who outscored the Noles 15-10.
Not even homefield could give the ‘Noles the advantage, who were playing in their first home game since Feb. 17. Bryant University played consistently on both ends of the field, with the offense scoring 9 goals off 17 shots in the first half and the defense holding Florida State’s offense to only 4 goals and no assists in the first half.
Both quarters in the second half saw Florida State scoring goals within the first couple of minutes. Junior Rob Herzog got a quick unassisted goal just 47 seconds into the third quarter. Senior Bryan Waters scored Florida State’s second goal of the third quarter just two-and-a-half minutes later to bring the score 9-6 in favor of Bryant. However, Bryant notched three more goals in the third quarter, including two that were 45 seconds apart, increasing the Bulldogs’ lead to 12-6.
Rookie Corey Noonan scored all four of Florida State’s goals in the fourth quarter, with the first one coming at 12:06 left in the quarter off a junior Grover Light pass. Noonan would notch two more goals before the Bulldogs found their way to the goal again, but this time scoring three goals in a two-minute span.
Florida State returns to action at Harkins Field on Saturday, Feb. 18 versus Brigham Young University at 3 p.m. The last time the two teams met resulted in a 11-10 Seminole victory in the USL-MDIA quarterfinals.
