Florida State University was announced as the winner of the prestigious James “Ace” Adams Award which honors the lacrosse program that best embodies the spirit of sportsmanship and creates a model game environment. The award is voted on by active collegiate lacrosse officials in the southeastern United States, and is awarded by the U.S. Lacrosse Men’s Division Collegiate Officials Committee.

The award is named in honor of National Lacrosse Hall of Fame member James “Ace” Adams, who served as the head coach at Army and Virginia. Adams was renowned for his positive sideline demeanor, as well as the exceptional strength of character exhibited by his teams.

The award recognizes a program’s coaching staff, team, administration and fans for their displays of sportsmanship and creating a quality environment for the game of lacrosse through its facility and game management.

“When I played, Ace Adams was the Bobby Bowden of lacrosse—he was the coach,” said Florida State head coach Bill Harkins. “When you played Army, you told everyone you were playing Ace Adams and Army. Everybody liked him and respected him as a man, but he was also a great coach, so if you managed to beat Ace and Army, you knew you had done something special. This award couldn’t be named after a better gentleman or a better bastion of the game. We’re tremendously honored to receive the Ace Adams Award, and we will proudly display it in our trophy case.”
